Hello, PTA is still hard at work making the rest of the school year fun for all. We have brought you many entertaining events and activities throughout the year, with a few surprises yet to come! Those who most recently attended our Junior Olympics event had the added fun of watching David Fisher "THE ROPE WARRIOR" dazzle the crowd with his athletic ability. This event and so many others are pulled off each year by a dedicated group of teachers, parents and district staff that are trying to make our schools more than just a place to learn. Together we are trying to bring families from all 4 of our schools together, and in doing so, make everyone feel welcome. We are always looking for the next great suggestion, so please give us some good ideas for events or contests for next year. One of the most rewarding aspects of being 1st Vice President of our PTA is our annual scholarship contest. I oversee a committee that awards (4) $500 scholarships to college bound High School graduates that attended District 84. If you know of a deserving college bound senior, please direct them to the student service offices of East or West Leyden High School for a list of rules and an application. Please hurry though, deadline for entry is April 18th. Happy Spring Kathy White/1st Vice President
Can you believe that we're in the final stretch of the school year? It hardly seems possible! This is really an exciting time for everyone! The next big event that "Safety & Parent Ed." is working on is the "Mini-Relay-For-Life" which will take place in May. For those of you that don't know what it is, "The Mii Relay" is a school based program from the American Cancer Society to try to teach children at a young age how to make healthy choices in life. We are still in the planning stages but are very excited about our upcoming "Relay Week." It's sad to admit that not many of our families haven't been touched by Cancer, it's a sad reality that many of our children have faced. The American Cancer Society's main fundraiser is "The Relay For Life." Franklin Park proudly participates in the "Relay" every year. Our schools will do the "Mini Relay" at each school. These events will combine fun facts, healthy choices, exercise and a lot of fun! Anyone who would like to volunteer to help out should contact their child's teacher or myself. Last year many of the children go to participate in these events at their schools and all seemed to get a lot out of it. This year we plan to make it bigger and better! Watch for more information! On another note, with the change of weather, please take a minute to remind your kids about outdoor safety. We need to remind them to always be aware of their surroundings. We're lucky to live in such a great community, but it never hurts to be cautious!
Enjoy Spring!
